Hygiene

Today's the start of the weekend, but before I celebrate then end of a short work week I have a cleaning this afternoon at the dentist office. I'm not a big fan of the scraping and polishing but it must be done if I'm to hang on to my pearly whites! This presents the perfect opportunity to showcase another addition to my album of amazing project, a 1992 Upper Deck Turk Wendell. I can't say I've ever seen another ballplayer brushing his teeth at a water fountain, so such uniqueness deserves a place in the album. Everyone have a great weekend!

It's so Tiny!

It's been crazy the past few weeks with traveling to Dallas for a work conference, training, and new job responsibilities at work. As a result, I haven't had any time to post to the blog. I'm optimistic, however, that I can resume my postings. Here's another addition to my album of amazing project, a 1992 Upper Deck Mike Benjamin. The retro uniform looks great but Benjamin staring at the vintage glove he's holding is what I love most about this card and what earns it a spot in the album.

A Billy Bobble for the Bookshelf!

I purchased another bobblehead for my collection this past week, Reds centerfielder Billy Hamilton. These were given away last year to the first 25,000 fans on July 12th when the Reds faced the Pirates. For those interested, Cincinnati lost the game 6-5 thanks to a home run in the 11th by Andrew McCutchen. This is probably my first player bobblehead that depicts someone running instead of batting or fielding. A very nice bobblehead that I'm happy to now own.

A Votto Trifecta!

This past weekend the last card I needed for my Joey Votto trifecta arrived. As I mentioned earlier, this is my fifth and final trifecta that I've completed. The three cards that make up this trifecta are: a 2008 eTopps Joey Votto rookie card, a 2014 Topps finest black printing plate, and a 2008 Upper Deck Premier Rookies Signature card. This trifecta took over a year to complete since a majority of Votto's printing plates and autographs were $50 or more a piece. Needless to say, I didn't want to spend that much for those so I took my time and picked the plate and autograph up for less than $35 each. Not too bad considering that Joey seems to be returning to form this year.

It's On the Way!

I recently won a certified Joey Votto autograph card on eBay, and it's a beauty. Numbered 63/75 this is a 2008 Upper Deck Premier Rookies Signature parallel . I was surprised that I landed this card for $36 shipped considering that the non-parallel version of this card, with a print run of 299 cards is selling for between $60 and $135. This card, when in hand, will complete my fifth (and final) trifecta. Once I get the cards placed in an ultra pro 3 card screw down I'll snap a picture and write up a post. On a side note, I missed the Reds/Pirates game last night but heard that Votto was ejected. My guess is he'll probably be suspended a game or two for bumping the ump.

Surf's Up!

I believe this is the first time I've ever seen a ballplayer carrying a surf board on a card. Therefore, this 1997 Collectors Choice Jason Thompson deserves a spot in my album of amazing project.
