So old yet so good!

I'm a little discouraged that baseball season is coming to an end and with it another year drawing to a close. I can't believe it's already the middle of October and the holiday season is quickly approaching. It's around this time of year when I look at my collecting goals (but since I didn't set any goals this year I'll have to look at my most wanted list) to see what I've knocked off the list. Sadly, I haven't picked up a single card from my 10 most wanted. Instead, I've been focusing primarily on my Pete Rose PC as well as my 1971 and 1965 Topps sets. There are two T-206 cards I have on my Top 10 that I was hoping to purchase this year, but I still haven't been able to find any at a price I want to pay and in decent condition. I did, however, find this nice T-206 Hans Lobert the other day and I'm glad that it now resides in my collection. Sure, it's a piedmont like my other tobacco cards but I'm ok with that. I think it would be great if I could have at least one card from each of the various brands (Piedmont, Sweet Caporal, Polar Bear, Sovereign, etc.) but I'm not going to lose any sleep if I can't make that happen. This is the 8th T206 card in my collection and I'm hoping that by the end of next year I can have half of the Reds team set complete.

Congratulations on the pickup. Best of luck finding a reasonably priced Egan and Campbell. I'm sitting at one T206 in my collection... but one of these days I'll get around to adding more.

Great pickup! I can't imagine there have been many baseball players named Hans.

Thanks Nick. It's a shame there wasn't a Franz that played for the Reds during that period. I would have been all over that.

Thanks Fuji. It surprises me how some are affordable while others are just untouchable. As for pricing, they're all over the spectrum. It's always nice to add a piece of cardboard that's over 100 years old to the collection. The pinnacle to my collection would be to acquire at least one Old Judge card.

That's a very nice card. I recall reading about Lobert in some Reds history books. He played for the Reds the longest out of any team he played for (4 years, 1906-10) and later managed the Philles and coached for the Reds in the 40s.

Thanks Adam. That's interesting about Hans. I had no idea he coached for the Reds in the 40s.
